Hello Internet,

My name is Jonathan and, after 26 years on this planet, it is time for me to enter the “Real World.” This is my first post on what I hope will become a regularly updated blog, and it seems fitting for it to be an introduction. I’ll try to keep it brief, but apologies in advance as brevity is not one of my strengths. (Also I like using big words and commas, especially incorrectly.)

So without further ado, about me: I graduated from Cardozo School of Law last summer and I am currently awaiting my admission to the New York State Bar. Before that, I attended New York University for Music Business. Now that I have passed the NY State Bar Exam, I am entering a world absent schooling and academic settings for the first time since before I started kindergarten over 20 some odd years ago. Although I am no longer sitting in a classroom or taking tests, I will always be a student to a certain extent.

Outside of academia, I am a musician. I have been playing one instrument or another since I was in the third grade, at the tender age of 8. While I have studied many instruments to varying degrees, I consider myself a guitar player first and foremost. More recently, I have delved into the staggeringly deep waters of recording and production. My first full production effort was the debut EP from my band Postcard Secrets. Anyone who is interested can find it for free at www.postcardsecretsmusic.com or on itunes/amazon if you want to give me money.

As this introduction has clearly gone on for longer than necessary, I’ll bring it to a close with a little bit about what I hope to accomplish with this blogging venture. I hope to use this piece of cyber real estate to document and share my musical endeavors with the world. I also hope to examine legal issues facing the music and recording industries. We live in an exciting time where technology has opened doors previously locked behind prohibitively large entry costs and it has turned many traditional entertainment related industry models upside down. So please bear with me as I get the hang of “blogging.”

My name is Jonathan, and this is my transition from academia to the “Real World,” whatever that may be.
